SynopsisEdit

On the anniversary of the ambush at Bryant's Gap, the Lone Ranger is bringing his nephew, Dan Reid Jr., to visit the grave of his father. Meanwhile, Thunder Martin, a good friend of the Lone Ranger and Tonto, receives a visit from a strange man desparately searching for the Ranger. When Tonto visits Thunder a short time later, they receive word that Butch Cavendish has broken out of prison. Tonto deduces that the strange man who called on Thunder was actually Cavendish, and now he's on his way to Bryant's Gap for a showdown with the Lone Ranger.

Cavendish manages to surprise the Ranger and Dan at the Gap. The Lone Ranger is wounded in the ensuing gunfight, but still manages to face off with Cavendish face-to-face at the top of a cliff. The Lone Ranger, in a desparate move, manages to throw Cavendish over the side. As Butch Cavendish lay at the bottom of the canyon, the Lone Ranger gets in close and removes his mask, wanting Cavendish to know the true identity of the man who defeated him. Cavendish, recognizing the face of the Ranger from all those years before, laments with his dying breath "I wish I could've died not knowing."

NotesEdit

The other four Rangers who died in the ambush are named in this episode as:

  • Jim Bates
  • Sam Cooper
  • Jack Stacy
